2006 Dodge 2500 TIPM issue

by truxgirl on Jan 17 2019, 4:15 PM

Have an 06 Ram 2500 Dsl in, had major electrical issues. (Cluster would work intermittently, tail lights were intermittent, Shifting issues, drivability issues, rough idle, etc.) Replaced major grounds, still same issue. Replaced TIPM, which corrected everything, but now it seems like it is running out of fuel when at idle sputters to the point of almost stalling then revs up almost to the point of runaway then clears up until the next brake to idle. Occasionally stalls out. BUT, IN DRIVE GEARS ONLY. Does not stall out in Neutral or Park when at idle. I am at a loss.. Ideas?

Have you done any load testing on any problematic modules?

Maybe something is getting hot and failing.

Also, are there any DTC's? plz list

Several times we have seen torque converters not fully unlocking at idle in these trucks. That would definitely cause a stall in gear. I would start with torque converter testing if there are no other codes stored in the modules.

There are fantastic dealership technicians. Just because someone works for the dealership doesn't mean that they are great technicians. Generally the dealership environment prevents the technician from spending enough time with the vehicle to figure out those intermittent problems. I feel that you should do your research to find a shop that is experienced with your type of vehicle, has the proper tooling, & is willing to spend the proper amount of time with your car. Do research. To recommend the dealer is a easy answer, but may or may not actually be best.

We would recommend the vehicle be taken to the dealer.
