Burnt smell and discolored feed wire 04 VW Beetle

by alexandermark1994 on May 24 2017, 5:40 PM

Customer’s 2004 VW Beetle in with a no start, found low alternator output, replaced alternator & regulator, test drive car, notice a burnt smell and discolored feed wire at the junction box at the battery. Still can’t figure out what is wrong.

Dorman products and tech smart make a battery fuse box that may need replacing - it's part # is 924-680

These cars have an issue melting the connections at the fuses in that junction block. Look at the back of the block to see if its deformed under the studs that the fuses sit on. With this failure, they don't proper conduct the necessary amperage to operate the systems. Replace the junction block for proper repair.

Have you checked the connector at the alternator and where the wire is burnt is probably where the problem started. If so, clean and check the wire connection and retest the system for proper output.
