Noise in center of 1999 Ford F150 dashboard
by oldman1953 on Sep 01 2017, 5:53 PMI had a noise begin in the center of the dashboard on a 99 F150. I could hear it just about everywhere I listened in the dash. After seaching several Ford Forums, the overwhelming opinion was the blend door motor had failed. I removed the lower dash plastic cover so I could touch the blend door motor to confirm it was the culprit. Could never identify any control position that would casue the noise to run. So I had to just wait until the noise started to touch it. It sounded like an electric motor that would run for three seconds, stop and then repeat - three times. I thought the blend door was a possibility but all the controls worked fine.
It finally made the noise while sitting in the drive sitting still. I leaned over to touch the blend door motor and couldn't feel any vibration to indicate it was running but, as I leaned over my ear rested on the radio/CD player. THAT I could hear. Turns out the noise is the CD player trying to run a CD. It is too old a truck to fix the player so as long as I leave in a CD the noise is never heard. Glad I didn't chase my tail too long on that one! Anyone else ever seen this happen?
