Pilot Bearing Removal

If you are doing a clutch job and need to replace the pilot bearing, but do not have a pilot bearing removal tool I have a trick that will get you out of a jam.  Pack the cavity behind the pilot bearing with wheel bearing grease.  Next find a punch or round steel rod close to the size of the pilot bearing hole. Insert the rod into the hole and tap with a hammer.  This creates a hydraulic force which will push the pilot bearing out.  As the bearing starts to come out, you will need to add more grease to the hole and repeat the process of inserting the rod in the hole until the pilot bearing comes out.
