Wiper arms moving extremely slow

by jaseis007 on Feb 21 2019, 8:49 PM

Customer brought in a 2015 ford F-150 with the complaint that the wipers move too slow.  They move so slow that they act like the battery is dead.  They work on all settings, but move at the same speed.  This vehicle is not equipped with rain sensing wipers or speed sensing wipers.  With the wiper transmission remove the motor still rotates at the same speed.  And as a heads up no one offers an aftermarket motor for this truck.  Anyone seen anything like this yet?

You need to do a voltage drop test on the positive and negative wiper motor wires with the wipers turned on.

Honestly, for a lot of vehicles, we find that aftermarket wiper motors and transmissions either don't work well or don't work at all. So if you do the further testing and find it does need the motor, I definitely would go straight to getting a Ford one.

If the wiper motor still moves slow after the transmission and linkage assembly has been removed from the motor it may just be a worn motor. However, before installing a motor we suggest checking the power and ground circuits for the motor. Your vehicle may also have a module that operates the motor that too would need to be tested. It would be best to get the diagnostic flow chart from an O.E repair manual to verify the proper procedure for an accurate diagnosis.
